The GATHERING-TIME Bench: Redefining Campus Social Spaces

The award-winning GATHERING-TIME bench proposal aims to revitalize the University of Toronto’s St. George campus by addressing its lack of vibrant social spaces. By transforming “dead zones” into dynamic gathering areas, GATHERING-TIME introduces a series of playful, pixelated benches that encourage interaction and community building. These innovative seating arrangements break the monotony of traditional campus layouts, inviting students and faculty to pause, connect, and explore. Inspired by the transformative power of design, GATHERING-TIME aims to set a new standard for campus spaces, offering a model for creating engaging and inclusive environments across the globe.
