Leaside Behavioral Health Center is a research-based psychiatric hospital that prioritizes sustainable architecture and landscape therapy. The design, centred around a single courtyard, integrates the building seamlessly with the surrounding landscape to enhance patient well-being. This macro-scale approach creates a natural environment within the hospital setting.
Key Design Principles:
1- Building Configuration: The arrangement of the building on the ground and upper levels.
2- Natural Elements: The incorporation of natural light, ventilation, and scenic views.
3- Ecological Habitat: The preservation and enhancement of local biodiversity.
4- Green Infrastructure: The use of green roofs, living walls, and vegetation screens.
5- Community Connection: Integration with the surrounding community through transportation and public spaces.
6- Environmental Comfort: The creation of comfortable indoor and outdoor environments through effective climate control.
7- Renewable Energy: The utilization of renewable energy sources like geothermal and solar power, as well as passive design strategies.
